What are PovNet and PovNetU?

Welcome to PovNetUPovNet is an online resource for people who are physically, mentally, socially, economically or otherwise marginalized and the advocates who represent them. It provides a communication network for community groups and individuals involved in anti-poverty work through an intergration of offline and online technology and resources.

PovNetU is a collection of online courses aimed at anti-poverty advocates. The courses are intended to be a useful and cost efficient way of improving the skills and knowledge of advocates and people who need to advocate for themselves. The courses are facilitated by experienced advocates and include online discussion forums that enable participants to talk to and collaborate with one another as well as do individual work at their own pace (within the four week framework).

What makes up a PovNetU course?

Web pages

Course web pages take participants through the course week-by-week. PovNet U courses also include exercises and scenarios, links to other resources and information about the course facilitator and other participants.

Discussion Forums

PovNet U courses include private, password-protected discussion lists, collaborative workspaces and private journals where course participants can discuss course content and work together or alone to complete exercises.

Facilitator

Even online course participants need human contact. PovNet U courses are led by experienced advocates who moderate the forum conversations and provide feedback to course participants.
